DEFINITION

The most common of all inflammatory skin conditions. It affects sebaceous glands and hair folicles and is characterized by blackheads, whiteheads, superficial pustules, nodules, cysts, predominantly on the face, but common on neck, chest, shoulders and upper back. Acne lesions often result in scarring.
